## Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) tools
+
The use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI or GenAI) tools in this course
+
is considered acceptable (optional or non-mandatory) in specific contexts, as
+
described below.
+
+
First, and besides the use of computer tools, it is also important to realize
+
that a fundamental component of the learning outcomes expected in this course
+
are the conceptualization of the process of mathematical model building, and the
+
use of these models for the analysis and diagnosis of system behavior and the
+
specification of engineering solutions. These are capabilities that the students
+
are expected to achieve and be able to autonomously demonstrate at the end of
+
the course.
+
+
It is therefore very important to separate the use of computer tools from the
+
development of analytic capabilities that the students need to demonstrate. For
+
this end, the use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI or GenAI) tools the
+
assignments / tasks for this course is limited to:
+
+
- Translation of texts from a foreign language.
+
+
- Grammar revision / review of texts written by students.
+
+
- Citation / indication of authors and the preparation of bibliographic lists.
+
+
- Specific support in the direct implementation of computer programs / scripts,
+
when such programs are the direct or desired output of the task (e.g., writing
+
a computer program, or using it to produce numerical or graphical results).
+
+
When GenAI tools are used in the course tasks, you are required to:
+
+
- At the beginning of the report, provide a statement mentioning that GenAI
+
tools were used for its elaboration, and list all of the GenAI tools used.
+
+
- Provide an annex to the document, with the printout or listing of the full
+
scripts and outputs (i.e., the complete interaction) with the AI system.
+
+
Please remember that, in either case, the students are required to be aware of
+
all of the solution steps that were used. The students might also be required to
+
discuss these task reports with the instructors, to allow a clear evaluation of
+
the student's effort and comprehension level achieved. Any information revealed
+
during this step might be used to adjust the student grade, and should be
+
considered a regular part of the grading process.
+
+
The use of the any AI or GenAI outside the scopes considered here is not allowed
+
and should be discussed in advance with the instructors.
